After looking at the high rate of ATV accidents causing death or injury in NZ, we hade a look at what could be done to prevent this. Not a lot because ATVs have a very small wheel base and high centre of gravity.
They are dangerous, so we looked into a safer alternative vehicle for recreational use and on the farm. UTVs have been around in their current form in NZ for over 20 years, they were not much wider and had the same engine as an ATV but they needed to work twice as hard. Finally I found a brand that meet all my requirements.
A larger wheel base and a fully Automotive engine out of a Car not a Motorbike with a matching automotive manual transmission. These are the most capable farm vehicles that are available and all with a much safer design.
Are you looking at trying a UTV but are not sure because you have been put off buy constant engine failure on your ATV Quad bike, knowing full well that most UTVs have the same engine as your Quad?
Your fears are well founded. How can you expect the same engine to cope with a much bigger wheel base (length & width) with much more weight and a increased manufacturing maximum carrying and towing loads with the same engine as your Quad that can't already cope?
