Buller Regional Information

The Buller River flows through the Buller Gorge, a deep canyon between Murchison and Westport.

The environment can appear almost primeval, with ferns, cabbage trees and tall toi toi grasses lining the road. The route through the gorge provides a scenic journey, which can also be enjoyed on the river itself, by raft or kayak.

Located 14 kilometres west of Murchison, the Buller Gorge swingbridge is New Zealand's longest, stretching 110 metres across the gorge. Crossing the bridge to reach the far side of the gorge, you can return on a high speed flying fox ride, 160 metres above the Buller River.
