Taranaki Other Towns Regional Information

The towns of the Taranaki region in the west coast of the North Island all boast unique natural beauty, ski fields, tracks and parks. 

Taranaki's regional towns include Waitara, which has housed many major product manufacturing plants and has significant Treaty of Waitangi land conflict history. Other regional towns include Inglewood, Stratford, Opunake, Okato, Eltham, Hawera, Patea and Waverley. The wider Taranaki region also boasts Mount Taranaki/Egmont, a quiescent stratovolcano.

Visitors and locals alike enjoy taking advantage of the unique recreational opportunities offered by Mount Taranaki/Egmont, through exhilarating climbing, skiing, tramping and photography. The National Park does have a system of tracks which are suitable for overnight treks, but if you are climbing or walking on the mountain, you should always ensure that you are well prepared and equipped for all conditions. While on the mountain, you will walk amidst vegetation ranging from sub-tropical forests to sub-alpine growth at an altitude of 1,800 metres. At its highest point, the mountain is 2,518 metres.
