Gore Regional Information

The town of Gore is located midway between Dunedin and Queenstown. Operating as a service town for the surrounding farms, Gore is the second largest centre in Southland after Invercargill.

Famous as the brown trout capital of New Zealand, Gore attracts anglers from around the world from October through until April, offering excellent fishing in the waters of the Mataura River.

Another claim to fame for Gore is the town's country music festival, which culminates in the Gold Guitar Awards. This country music competition features over 700 competitors and draws an audience of over 5,000. Gore's Australian sister city, Tamworth, is the Country Music Capital of Australia.
