About Russia

Russia, at 17,075,400 square kilometres, is the largest country in the world. It extends across the whole of Northern Asia and 40% of Europe, and spans 11 time zones.

Russia is considered an energy superpower, as it has the world's largest forest reserves and its lakes contain around 1/4 of the world's unfrozen fresh water. With Russian as the official language, the 142,008,838 citizens of Russia (2008 estimate) may also speak one of 27 regional co-official dialects.
