The Papakura District is located in the southern part of the greater Auckland region, 32 kilometres south of Auckland City.
The area is one of physical contrasts, with forest-clad hills, flat plains, and an urban area, which constitutes 10% of the region's land area. Like its geography, Papakura's attractions are many and varied.
A large number of people enjoy the outdoors at the Hunua Ranges Regional Park, where visitors can tramp through remote bush, walk through native forest, explore mountain bike trails or picnic by the Hunua Falls. The Park covers 16,000 hectares, including regenerated Kauri, Matai, Kahikatea, Tawa, Rata and Rimu stands. Visitors to the park also enjoy horse trekking, fishing and camping.
