Kumeu Regional Information

Kumeu is a satellite town in the greater Auckland area, situated 25 kilometres northwest of Auckland City. This picturesque area has a reputation as a wine producing region, a tradition which began more than half a century ago and became increasingly successful from the 1960's onward. As well as grapes, the region's fertile soils also support many fruit orchards and horticultural plantings.

Nearby, Muriwai Beach is famed for its outstanding surf. This black sand beach is over 30 kilometres in length and is also home to one of the country's few gannet colonies, which is within easy walking distance of the beach. As well as surfing, the beach is also a great spot for fishing, horse riding and kite flying.
