Helensville Regional Information

Helensville is a farming community on the Kaipara Harbour and a popular destination for fishing, golfing and cruises. Located 45 kilometres from downtown Auckland, the city has a small-town feel and rural atmosphere, combined with the convenience of city amenities just a short drive away.

The township was first settled by Scottish timber workers who were involved with Kauri milling in the area. Dairy farming was also played a significant role in the town's economy by the early 1900's.

Today, the city is no longer a centre for farming or forestry, but attracts visitors who enjoy the historic buildings in the city and the chance to relax or get active in the outdoors. Just 3 kilometres from Helensville, Parakai is famous for natural hot springs, having drawn visitors to its geothermally heated pools since the first large public baths were established there in 1912. Many outdoor activities are popular, such as horse treks, fishing, golf, surfing and cruises on the Kaipara Harbour. There are also a number of vineyards in the area surrounding Helensville, which make for a pleasant day of wine tasting.
