Auckland Regional Information

The Auckland region is the most populated urban area in New Zealand, with an approximate population of 1.3 million. Stretching from the Hunua Ranges in the south-east to the Waitakere Ranges in the north-west, the Greater Auckland area encompasses Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf Islands; North Shore, Waitakere and Manukau Cities; the Papakura District; and parts of the Rodney and Franklin Districts.

The jewel in the region's crown is New Zealand's largest metropolis, Auckland City, an urban environment with beaches, hiking trails and holiday islands all within easy reach. The city is enjoyed for its food, wine and shopping experiences. An abundance of restaurants and bars inhabit Auckland City, offering up a selection of Pacific Rim cuisine which draws on the styles of Europe, the Mediterranean, Polynesia, Japan and Thailand, all made using fresh, local produce. The region is home to the most ethnically diverse population in New Zealand, with a strong Polynesian cultural presence and significant Maori and Asian communities.
