General Taranaki Weather Information

With the iconic Mount Taranaki, magnificent gardens, the awe-inspiring Egmont National Park, two marine reserves and many beaches, the Taranaki region has much to offer all year round. Taranaki weather enjoys some of the highest sunshine hours in the country, providing ample opportunity to enjoy this region's beautiful scenery and outdoor recreation. Along the 200 kilometre coastline are numerous swimming, walking, surfing, diving, kayaking and fishing locations, stretching from Waitotara in the south to Whangamomona in the east.

New Plymouth, a seaside city, is centred around its bustling port and vibrant city centre featuring beautiful old architecture. New Plymouth weather is mild year round. When the weather is fine, take a wander on the seven kilometre coastal walkway which runs from Port Taranaki to the Waiwhakaiho River mouth. When cooler days strike, explore Puke Ariki, a cutting edge attraction combining museum, library and information centre, or the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, a high profile modern gallery. Near Puke Ariki, you'll find the Wind Wand, a kinetic sculpture from abstract artist and innovator, Len Lye.
