General Manawatu & Wanganui Weather Information

From the sea to the mountains, the Manawatu-Wanganui region has much to offer in natural scenic beauty and cultural heritage. With a mild, temperate climate, the area's heart lies in the Whanganui River, where water-based sports such as kayaking, rafting, jet boating and fishing are all popular.

Dannevirke is a small provincial service town in the Tararua District, in the east of the Manawatu-Wanganui region. The surrounding area has a strong focus on dairy and sheep farming, to which Dannevirke weather is well suited. Established by Danish and Norwegian families, forest in the area was soon cleared for roads, a rail system and farmland, bringing economic prosperity to the settlement.

Levin is set beneath the Tararua Ranges, south of Palmerston North, and functions as a rural service town for the surrounding area. From this small town, visit the Tararua Ranges for views of Mount Taranaki or explore the wetlands of Lake Horowhenua. Levin weather is temperate and well suited to the needs of agriculture and horticulture.

Palmerston North is the region's largest centre, with a population of 79,000 and a rich blend of culture and heritage. At the city's centre lies The Square, an inner city park that forms the hub of this lively provincial town. Palmerston North weather has a pleasant climate and low rainfall, so the city's gardens, walking tracks and adventure pursuits are attractive pastimes for visitors. If the weather packs in, head to the innovative Te Aweawe museum or the legendary New Zealand Rugby Museum.

Wanganui is a thriving and vibrant provincial city. At its heart is the Whanganui River, together with the city's other natural features, its distinct heritage and its rich culture. Temperate Wanganui weather, high sunshine hours and low rainfall year round make the city a great outdoor recreation destination.
