Located on the southeastern shore of the Firth of Thames, on the western side of the Coromandel Peninsula, Thames is the gateway to the Coromandel region. Thames' warm climate, crafts and coastal destinations make it a popular holiday destination, with an average daytime temperature of 22°C in the summer and 13°C in the winter. Despite warm temperatures and long sunshine hours, the Coromandel region often experiences high annual rainfall, sometimes exceeding 3,000mm.
