Giving Dad a Fathers Day Card

Everybody loves to know when they’re appreciated – even ‘bloke-type’ fathers, so don’t let this Fathers Day go by without giving your dad a Fathers Day card. You can buy your dad a card, present him one made with your own hands, or send him an e-card.

The NZS.com Fathers Day Cards article contains a guide on how to buy the perfect Fathers Day card, or even make a Fathers Day card at home.

Do you find it hard to tell your dad how much you love and look up to him? Do the words just seem a bit too mushy and awkward in your mouth? You're not the only one - there is a theory that this is the reason for the existence of cards - to put your feelings and thoughts into words.

Buying a Card
What type of greeting card would your dad like to celebrate Fathers Day? There is a type of card for every personality - funny, sporty, arty, cheeky, and loving to name a few. There is also a type of card for every type of dad - dads, step-dads, granddads, foster dads, and men who happily play a fathering role.

Expand your Fathers Day card shopping beyond the Fathers Day section. Peruse the blank cards section - if you find one with a picture you love, it'll be fantastic by the time you write a personal Fathers Day message inside.

Overseas and wondering where the Fathers Day cards section is? Fathers Day is celebrated on different days around the world - but don't despair - personalise a blank card with a lovely Fathers Day message, make your own Fathers Day card, or consider sending an e-card instead.

E-Cards
If your dad is email literate, he'll love receiving an e-card. After all, who doesn't get a buzz every time a new email arrives - unless of course it is spam!

Some e-cards are completely free, and others have a small charge. They are designed with a blank space so you can add a personalised message to make your dad feel really loved.

Handmade Cards
There is nothing quite as touching as a handmade card. You don't have to be an artist to create a card that your dad will treasure and display. So read through the ideas below and get started today!

  • Dads love to get your drawings and paintings. You could glue one of your best to the front of a card, and add a border to make it stand out even more.
  • What to draw? Perhaps a picture of dad, or one of his favourite interests such as golfing or fishing, or a collection of pictures that show the activities you love doing with your dad.
  • Does your dad remind you of a super hero? You could cut out your dad's face from a photo and super-impose it onto the hero's picture.
  • Want some help with drawing? Browse the internet for kid's websites - you will find lots of pictures that you can print out and colour in. You can then cut and paste this picture onto your Fathers Day card.
  • Don't want to draw? You could cut out pictures and patterns from magazines, newspapers, chocolate wrappers and old packaging such as tissue boxes. Check out a craft supplies shop for some materials and fancy papers to jazz up your Fathers Day card.
  • Want a fancy card shape? You could cut it into the shape of a golf ball or tie. Or how about colouring the whole card with the colours of his favourite sports team?
  • Got a photo dad will love? You could stick a family shot on the front of the card. If you want something arty, play around with it in Photoshop first. Or you could grab a number of photos, and cut and paste the interesting bits onto the front of the card.
  • Once you've made your card, the final and most important part is a fantastic Fathers Day message that lets your dad know just how great he is. Look up some Fathers Day poems and quotes for ideas of what to write.
