Residing in the hills of Christchurch, Ailish Jewellery’s designer is inspired by the wearable art aspects of New Zealand jewellery, and how something so small can become a part of the larger whole of the body.

Each Ailish Jewellery piece is created with the aim of becoming an outward expression of the self, from a quirky sense of humour to the inner ponderings of the soul. This New Zealand jewellery designer fashions sterling silver into intricate, New Zealand inspired pieces – many of which have been influenced by Maori patterns and motifs, and an emphasis on new beginnings.

Favourite pieces for 2009 include: the Ailish Kowhaiwhai Earrings, inspired by the Moari Kowhaiwhai pattern wrapped around the beams of a meeting house.

Paradigm
New Zealand jewellery and bag design label Paradigm was established on sustainable principles in 1989 and works with organisations and people who share similar values. All design pieces are crafted using recycled and salvaged materials, such as old billboards and fabric off-cuts.

Favourite pieces for 2009 include: the Salvage Upcycled Beetle Brooch and the Salvage Upcycled Kiwi Brooch, both created with 3mm laser cut wood brooch, and laminated with salvaged fabric off cuts.

Aroha Silhouettes
Aroha Silhouettes is the second job of Christchurch-born full time scientist Tania Hennessy, who today lives in Vancouver, Canada. New Zealand jewellery by Aroha Silhouettes offers simple, eco friendly pendants made from reclaimed vinyl records.

When you look closely at the pieces you can see the unique grooves that hold the music, creating a one of a kind design. This gorgeous necklace is lightweight and forms a petite silhouette against your neckline when worn.

Favourite pieces for 2009 include: Vinyl Record Necklace – Dewfall, and Vinyl Record Necklace – Radius.

Papercup
Papercup consists of mother daughter duo Frances and Virginia McMullen: both born creative, both always having been definite DIYers. They started Papercup, encompassing clothing, New Zealand jewellery, cards, bags, and homewares, in 2005 and are inspired by beautiful fabrics, French movies, vintage design, coloured pencils, hedgehogs and raccoons.

Favourite pieces for 2009 include: the Sweet Birdhouse Necklace and Oui Oui Paris Necklace.
