Courier Services in New Zealand
To find NZ courier services, or find out information about how to send a package via courier in New Zealand, read on about the services offers to get your items safely from A to B.
While e-mail and other instantaneous forms of communication have taken significant prominence over snail mail correspondence over the last 15 years, there is one form of mail which has not (and will not) ever be taken over by a virtual service. Courier posting lets you send items speedily via post. Whether it be a gift basket across town, TV set to another city or birthday gift across the globe, the physical sending of non-paper items cannot be replaced by an online alternative.
Everyday, thousands of New Zealanders trust couriers with important items, expecting a 100% correct and undamaged delivery rate. While more expensive than standard post, courier posting is fast and much safer, and is your best bet for hassle and breakage free postage solutions. There are many different kinds of NZ courier services, offering options to suit every individual, small business or large corporation.
Pick Up or Drop Off
Many New Zealand bookshops and post offices offer drop off courier services, whereby you take your item in, choose the packaging to suit, address your item and send it off. This can work for both smaller items which can fit into standard courier bags, or larger items which will want to pre-pack yourself. Scales are available at all of these outlets, as you will be charged based on the weight of your package.
If you have a larger item to send via courier, you can also get the courier service to pick this item up. Make sure you've packed it safely and securely. You can buy courier products online, in stores, or from the couriers themselves. These products can include courier tickets (similar to stamps), bags, envelopes and bubble wrap in all shapes and sizes. It takes just a simple phone call to get a courier to pick up an item, and they can usually get to you on the day of request, especially if you're in a metropolitan area. If you send and receive a lot of packages (i.e. for business purposes); it may be a good idea to have a courier set up to come at a certain time each day to drop off any packages sent to you, and pick up anything outgoing.
Additionally, urgent courier services are also available for city-wide deliveries, and can normally be picked up by a messenger and delivered within a central area in under an hour.
Tracking and Tracing
The reason most people use courier services in New Zealand? Safety and security. All NZ courier services offer track and track systems, meaning the sender is given a number specific to the package, which they can use to see the delivery status of it at any time. By simply logging on to the courier company's website or phoning their service centre, you can find out the time of pick up, location in transit and final delivery time, all by using one unique code. You can also pass on your tracking code to the receiver so they can monitor the package's progress.
Secure Delivery
NZ Courier services also different levels of security, depending on your needs and the value of the package you're sending. For lower-priced or less important items, you can choose a more cost effective delivery option whereby the courier will leave the package at your doorstep if nobody is home at the time of delivery. As a higher-security option, you can require a signature on delivery, meaning if you're not home the package is sent back to the mail centre and a card is left for you to arrange a suitable time for the courier to return. Failing that, you can ask for your package to be sent to another location, or your local post shop for you to pick up.
