NZS.com : Guidelines For Article Creation

Writing for online readers requires a slightly different technique to writing for print publication. However, we suggest that you write your article first and foremost for your reader and worry about editing it later.

You can edit your article, so it has more appeal to online scanners by using several key techniques including:

  • A meaningful title, which clearly identifies the subject of the article
  • Sub-titles, which break the page into 'mini' topics
  • Short paragraphs, each focusing on one idea
  • Clear, informative copy
  • Use of bold text
  • Short to mid-length sentences
  • Bulleted and numbered lists
  • Half the word count of conventional writing

When you write and submit your article, think about who will be reading your article, (not just the editors at NZS.com). We suggest thinking about how you will:

  • Appeal to your target market
  • Provide useful and valuable information
  • Engage your customer or reader

What to Include in Your Article Submission

You will need to include the following information with each article submission:

  • Article title: maximum of 10 words.
  • Article length: maximum of 2,000 words or approximately five A4 pages of text.
  • Author biography: maximum of 60 words, which must include your full name and may include one link to your business or personal Web site.
  • Copyright clause: maximum of 40 words outlining your copyright terms.

Formatting Your Article

  • Please provide your article copy in the form of a Microsoft Word document or equivalent text document.
  • You can add sub-titles, bold and italicised text, bullet points and numbered lists.
  • It is your responsibility to check for grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.
  • We retain the right to alter formatting of your article to be in keeping with the look of the NZS.com site.

When you are happy with your work, add your article to NZS.com.
