Now that the Christmas hoopla is over, you can welcome in the New Year with one of the fantastic summer music festivals on offer around the country!
Rhythm and Vines 09 is set to be the biggest event this the New Years, with bands such as The Kooks, Franz Ferdinand, Public Enemy and Shihad venturing to sunny Gisborne for the 4-day festival. This year, the festival also offers several accommodation options, from standard tent sites to luxury, all inclusive VIP tenting – a real treat for Kiwi music lovers.
Have you though about how you’re going to get to the Rhythm and Vines festival, or other summer music festivals such as the Big Day Out (January 16, in Auckland)? Bus travel is certainly the way to go – you don’t want to even attempt finding a park at one of these massive events. But don’t worry, you won’t have to restrict yourself by taking a standard council bus all the way there, just find a bus company who are making a dedicated trip from Auckland to Gisborne (or get picked up on the way).
Buses to Rhythm and Vines 09 depart on the morning of December 28, so get in now to avoid disappointment, and ring in the New Year in musical bliss!
The start of May brings another NZ Music Month to life. This seems to fit nicely with the announcement today that Flight of the Conchords have come in at #3 on the US pop charts with their debut self-titled album, topping the previous high of Crowded House at #12 for their own self-titled debut album in 1987.
Each year, the month of May is dedicated to promoting New Zealand music on radio & television and is supported heavily by the NZ Music Commission who work tirelessly to bring local talent in front of the wider NZ public.
The official website (nzmusicmonth.co.nz) lists a surprisingly large level of NZ gigs going on around during the month. On the 1st of May alone there are more than 20 different NZ gigs taking place up and down the country, from Sarah Brown in Auckland to The Mint Chicks in Dunedin.
Make sure you get your fair share of New Zealand music this month and get along to one of the gigs!
This week I heard about the Dancefloorguru hip space tune ‘Moving To Mars.’ The music video is epic and the song rocks, so you absolutely have to check out the video below. The lads from Dancefloorguru are based in Dunedin and do gigs there and around Queenstown, but one day I think they could go INTERSTELLAR!
