Skiing From FlickrThe Winter Olympics 2010 is under full swing in Vancouver, although the latest news is that heavy snow up on Blackcomb Mountain and rain and fog on Cypress Mountain is causing grief for event organisers, athletes and spectators alike.

Certain sports events have been postponed and training for other events have been shortened. Dry weather is forecasted so let’s hope things clear up soon.

The United States is currently leading the medal count with 8 medals in total. France follows with 7 medals and Germany is in third place with 6. New Zealand has yet to secure a medal but if a Kiwi does win a gold, silver or bronze, he or she will be only the second New Zealander ever to win a medal in the Winter Olympics! Fingers crossed for a New Zealand medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Earth Hour 2009

Posted in Environment by on March 20th, 2009

Earth Hour 09 kicks off in New Zealand tomorrow night, with 1760 cities worldwide over 80 countries participating. The event, now in its 8th year, asks every house in the world to turn off the lights for one hour on one night of the year.

The first Earth Hour saw 2.2 million homes and businesses switch off their lights in Sydney, and this year’s event hopes to reach 1 billion people over the globe. Last year, landmarks such as the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca-Cola billboard in Time Square all stood in darkness for the hour in mention.

By switching off your lights on Saturday night, your household can help take control of the future of our planet by combating climate change. Make sure you join Earth Hour between 8.30 – 9.30pm tomorrow night!
