With the first official month of autumn coming in this weekend, it’s time to start thinking about activities for the colder months. With the balmy temperatures around the country we’ve enjoyed throughout the summer in New Zealand, most of us probably got out to the beach or pool for a dip, and don’t yet want to pack up for the year. Not ready to curl up in layers of clothing just yet?
Your togs haven’t finished their run of the season – in fact you can keep them on all winter by going to a thermal pools facility! New Zealand has over 100 natural thermal hot pools
around the country, some 35 of them commercially operated. They’re a great place for the whole family; kids can have fun on slides and rock pools while parents relax in adult-only pools and use the day spa facilities. Perfect on cold days, find a hot pool and health spa near you from the NZS.com directory and warm your bones for the day!

In support of the internet blackout for creative freedom
, NZS.com is amongst the thousands of New Zealand companies and personal internet users that are showing our support today in protest of Section 92A.
With a black banner on the NZS.com homepage, we’re joining the campaign against the proposed law which is set to disconnect any internet connection based on accusation of copyright, without any evidence. The final day of the week-long protest is today as the law is currently set to come into place on February 28 if successful.
If you have a website or social networking page we invite you to black out your avatars in support of the creative freedom foundation
alongside NZS.com and a large proportion of Kiwi internet users worldwide.

With tertiary education campuses about to fill up in the next two weeks with the start of the university and NZ polytech
year, student antics will next week kick off the first semester with the biggest event of the year, Orientation 2009!
Organised by Student’s Associations around the country, tertiary students are privy to a week of challenges, concerts, promotions, pub crawls and the dreaded infliction of Fresher traditions by older students onto First Years.
Before the educational programmes begin and young Kiwis are forced to knuckle down for two semesters of late night studying and nerve-racking examination periods, Orientation is a great time for both new and returning students to get into the spirit and enjoy their last week of stress-free living for 2009.

Today the Creative Freedom NZ group launched their Internet Blackout campaign.
The New Zealand Internet Blackout is a protest against Section 92A of a proposed law that is described as calling for internet disconnection based on accusations of copyright infringement without any trial and without any evidence that is held up to court scrutiny.
“A “copyright holder” can get you kicked off an ISP without having to provide any evidence of an actual infringement. Having to [provide evidence] is apparently “impractical” and “ridiculous” in the words of RIANZ chief executive Campbell Smith. What happens when the “you” above is a public library, or a school? Or if the “copyright holder” makes a mistake or a malicious accusation?” – ComputerWorld Magazine.
From February 16-23, users of Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites are encouraged to replace their avatars with a black image to signify their opposition to S.92. The proposed new law if successful, will come into full force on February 28.

We’re off to a cracker year on NZS.com, launching our new look this week and breaking a milestone barrier for page views last month – we hit the one million mark!
That’s right, NZS.com breaks a million page views, keeping us up with the increasing growth that the global online world is experiencing. Throughout 2008 we averaged 850,000 page views per month but for the first month of 2009 we soared to 1,075,401 visitor page views. Reaching this milestone is a great indication of the growing importance of New Zealand search.
Despite the predicted economic downturn in 2009, online marketing commentators predict further growth of the online industry as companies increasingly look to online marketing campaigns to increase their brand awareness and create new business.
